What is this tool?

Merchants already selling on Shopify get AI drafting, image editing and an admin assistant from Magic at no extra charge. It exists only inside a paid Shopify plan or its trial, and some tools are desktop-first: product descriptions cannot be generated on iPhone or Android, and Sidekick needs the Shopify app rather than a mobile browser.

Magic appears where the work already happens in the Shopify admin. In a text field, a prompt produces a draft to accept or edit; in the file editor, an image can have its background replaced or be regenerated from a prompt; and Sidekick opens as a chat that can work through the store's data and settings. Shopify's guidance is to review anything an AI tool creates, and its help centre leaves the merchant responsible for the accuracy of published text.

Availability differs by feature and plan. Generally available features are on all plans and in all languages, while early-access features vary. Media generation with Sidekick is limited to the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, and media generation in the file editor is on all plans at no additional cost 'for a limited time', in Shopify's words.

Shopify plan prices are regional: the help centre says subscriptions are billed in EUR, GBP, USD or INR depending on location, and some regions get prices adjusted to local cost of living. The rupee prices in the plan cards are Shopify's India variant, not a universal price. Annual billing charges the full year upfront at a lower effective monthly rate, and subscription charges are generally non-refundable under Shopify's Terms of Service.

Text drafts across the store

A prompt produces suggested copy for product descriptions, blog posts, pages, Shopify Messaging emails, Shopify Inbox instant answers and suggested replies, and theme-editor text. Product descriptions can be generated in any language Shopify supports, matching the language of the prompt.

Sidekick in the admin

Sidekick takes everyday-language requests to answer questions about the store, generate content, build custom apps and complete admin tasks. It presents changes for review before applying them and keeps working on longer tasks in the background, notifying you when they are ready.

Image editing

Media generation replaces a product photo's background with a solid colour, with automatic subject detection and manual correction, or transforms the image from a written prompt to change the background or lighting. Output defaults to 1 megapixel at the source aspect ratio, one scene at a time.

Merchant data stays with the merchant

Shopify says Magic combines its own proprietary data with third-party large language models, and that one merchant's store-level data is not used to power Magic for other merchants.

No. Shopify's help centre says Magic's tools are free regardless of subscription plan, though access to specific features varies, and its Sidekick page says Sidekick is included with a Shopify plan, with features and usage limits that vary by plan.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes, through Shopify's own trial. The pricing and free-trial pages offer a free 3-day trial that needs no credit card, then ₹20 a month for 3 months on the India variant. The help centre adds that trial length can vary, cannot be extended, and that the store is paused at the end until a paid plan is chosen.

Is there a free plan?
