Fast-read signals for fit, pricing, and trust.
Filmmakers, marketers and video editors producing short AI clips get Runway's own models and third-party ones under one credit balance, with plugins for Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve. Budget for several attempts per usable shot: credits are charged by model, duration and resolution, Standard and Pro credits reset each month, and commenters on Runway's launch videos describe running through them quickly. The Free plan's one-time 125 credits and watermark allow only a short test.
Runway's site is now runway.com, while the web app and help centre stay on runwayml.com addresses; companion iPhone (iOS 16.4 or later) and Android apps are linked from the site, and the App Store listing says work syncs between phone and computer for existing accounts. Generate from prompts or reference images and footage, edit video, or describe a video to the agent, then download the result or continue in an editing plugin. Developers use a separate API platform, Runway Dev, whose credits are separate from app credits.
Each paid plan can be paid monthly or yearly. Paid users can buy extra credits from Plans & Billing, from a minimum of 1,000; Free users cannot. A cancelled subscription runs to the end of its term. The terms (updated September 15, 2026) make fees non-refundable except as stated or required by law; the help centre describes refunds on request for a subscription bought or renewed in the last 30 days and unused or nearly unused, for unused credits bought in the last 30 days, or for a wrong plan, and App Store or Google Play purchases are refunded by those stores.
Runway's terms claim no ownership of what you put in or generate and, subject to the agreement, place no limit on commercial use of outputs; Free-plan videos are watermarked. The same terms allow inputs and outputs to be used to train and improve Runway's models, while the Enterprise plan is described with no training on customer data, SSO, SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001.

Comments under Runway's own launch videos, from July 2024 to August 2025, carry two cautions. Six commenters on two videos say their credits ran out quickly, four of them because a usable result took several attempts; one called the credit cost of a short clip too much. Four commenters on three videos, all in 2025, say their own results fell short of the launch demos or were unreliable, while two others were positive, one saying a Gen-3 music video was worth it for the first time. Both are reasons to test on your own material before choosing a large plan.
What you can actually do with this tool.
Create video, images and audio from prompts or reference media with Runway's own models and third-party models. Standard and above unlock all AI video and image models; the Free plan gets a limited selection.
Each generation is priced in credits; the vendor gives Gen-4.5 at 12 credits per second of video. Plan credits are spent first, then rollover credits, then separately bought credits, which never expire.
Supported models can be switched to a mode that uses no credits but starts more slowly in busy periods and runs fewer generations at once. Which models qualify varies with plan and promotional periods.
Runway can be used from ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or any MCP-compatible agent (Runway MCP is on Pro and Max) and through native plugins for Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.
Max adds HDR, ProRes and image-sequence output and early access to new models; the help centre adds on-demand generation with no queuing.

Common questions about this tool, answered.
Not on Standard or Pro: monthly credits reset on the billing date. Max and Team roll over up to one month of unused credits, and separately bought credits never expire. Free-plan credits are a one-time 125 that never expire but are never refilled.
Runway's terms claim no ownership of inputs or outputs and, subject to the agreement, do not restrict commercial use of outputs. Videos generated on the Free plan carry a Runway watermark.
It has not been sold since 1 June 2026. Existing subscriptions continue until 30 November 2026, when monthly subscribers move to Max at the same $95 a month; annual subscribers can cancel for a refund of the remaining months or take a credit bonus to move. Unlimited Mode on Pro and Max is a separate, current feature.
