What is this tool?

If you already have the words and need the diagram, Napkin is a direct route from a paragraph to an editable visual, and several users describe presentations made with it. Napkin says visual generation does not yet work on mobile, and users describe it not working on phones or tablets; they also note the free plan's limits, such as the branding on visuals and a weekly allowance one user put at a few slides.

Open the web app in the browser, paste or import text, select the passage you want illustrated and generate. Napkin returns candidate visuals; you pick one, edit its colours, text and icons, apply a brand style and export as PNG or PDF on Free or PPT and SVG on Plus and above. On a phone, existing work can be viewed and presentations created and edited, but visual generation is not available on mobile yet, in the vendor's words.

Credits are the meter. Free refreshes 500 a week; Plus and Pro include 10,000 and 30,000 a month, unused credits do not carry over, and the monthly allowance resets monthly even on annual billing. Top-ups are listed under Pro on the pricing card and in the help centre. Prices are localised by country: the $12, $30, $9 and $22 figures are the US variant, and the same pricing endpoint serves other countries in their own currency, so the price you see may differ.

Generated visuals may be used commercially and professionally on every plan on both of Napkin's official surfaces; the Terms expressly include resale of the output. Model-improvement use of anonymised interaction data is on by default and can be switched off in Account Settings.

Is this right for you?

Quick fit check against how you actually work.

Choose this if
  • You write the explanation first and want the diagram generated from that text, then edited
  • Your decks and documents already exist as PPT, DOC or PDF and you want them imported rather than retyped
  • You need PPT or SVG output and no vendor branding, which Plus provides
  • You want to automate generation through an API budgeted on the same credits as the app
Consider alternatives if
  • You need to create visuals on a phone or tablet; users report generation not working there, and Napkin says it is not available on mobile yet
  • You need a guarantee that outputs are unique or free of vendor-owned components, which the Terms do not give
  • You want unused credits to roll over from month to month

What people say

Mixed signals

Seventeen independent accounts across ten YouTube videos between August 2024 and May 2026 describe Napkin in three ways. Eight accounts on five videos report that it would not work for them on a phone or tablet, which lines up with Napkin's own FAQ that visual generation is not yet available on mobile (viewing and presentation editing are). Four accounts on three videos note that the free plan has limits; individual users point to the branding on visuals, a cap on sending images to PowerPoint and a weekly allowance that covers a few slides. On the strength side, five accounts on four videos are positive about the results: two value that the generated text and elements can be edited, and three describe presentations made with it, one of them 'in no time'.

Key features

What you can actually do with this tool.

Text in, editable visual out

Generation starts from a selected passage, at roughly one credit per word selected, and returns several candidate visuals. Every element of the result is editable, in the vendor's words, and two users single out being able to change the generated text and image.

Import what you already wrote

PPT, DOC, PDF, HTML and Markdown files import on every plan, so an existing deck or document is the raw material rather than something retyped.

Exports that match the plan

Free exports PNG and PDF with Napkin branding; Plus adds PPT and SVG export and removes the branding; Pro adds font upload and unlimited custom styles.

An API on the same credits

API access is available from account settings and draws on the same credits and plan limits as the app, so automated generation is budgeted the same way.

Frequently asked

Common questions about this tool, answered.

Is the free plan enough to work with?

For occasional visuals, yes: 500 credits a week at roughly one credit per selected word, with unlimited editing, import and PNG or PDF export. In practice, users note the free plan's limits: one mentions the Napkin logo on free visuals, another a weekly allowance good for a few slides. If you make decks weekly, Plus is where the branding goes and the allowance becomes monthly.

Can I use the visuals commercially, and are there restrictions?

Commercial and professional use is permitted on every plan, including websites, presentations, books, marketing and resale of the output. On what else applies, Napkin's two official surfaces say different things: the help centre says the visuals are 'not subject to copyright' and usable 'without any restrictions', while the Terms say you retain ownership rights 'if any' in generated output, may not extract or separately use the icons, illustrations and other Individual Components, which remain Napkin's, and get no guarantee that output is unique. Read the Terms before relying on either position.

Does Napkin train on my content?

Model-improvement use is on by default and can be turned off in Account Settings under Data Privacy. The Terms narrow what is used to anonymised interaction data, such as the text segment used for generation and the visual chosen, not the content of your visuals, and say third-party AI services may not train on your inputs.
