A Mage membership is built for frequent generation: a creator making images and short video clips often enough to use unlimited generation on the models a plan covers, with nothing to install. The free account is the main caution: beyond a one-time 300-Gem sign-up bonus, every generation on it spends Gems, and some users on YouTube and Reddit describe the free tier as much narrower than its name implies. Unlimited video starts on Pro at $30 a month; no video model runs unlimited on Basic.
Open Mage in the browser, pick a model or a concept, write a prompt, optionally with a saved character or a reference, and generate; refine with the single-purpose apps, then keep the result private or post it to Mage Social. Creations are private by default on every plan, which the documentation says means other users cannot see them, not that Mage cannot: content is moderated, and prompts sent to GPT Image 2, Grok or Nano Banana 2 go to OpenAI, xAI or Google, whose own rules apply.
Each membership makes generation unlimited on the models and settings in its plan table and deposits monthly Gems that expire after 30 days; anything outside the table runs on Gems, and video resolution and clip length vary by model. Memberships are billed monthly in advance and auto-renew; cancelling, possible at any time through a Stripe portal, ends the membership at the close of the paid month with a downgrade to the free account, and upgrades are pro-rated. Mage says it typically does not offer refunds, given the unlimited plans, and the terms exclude refunds for partial periods; no annual option appears on the membership page, the home page or the terms. A referral earns both people 5,000 Gems once the invited friend makes a first purchase.
Commercial use of generations is permitted on every plan, including Free, with attribution optional; for GPT Image 2, Grok and Nano Banana 2 the labs' own terms also apply, and imported custom models carry their authors' licences. The terms grant Ollano, Inc., Mage's operator, a perpetual, sub-licensable licence over content submitted through the service. Users must be 18 or older, and automating generations in the web app is forbidden, with business automation directed to the API.

What you can actually do with this tool.
Open models (Stable Diffusion 1.5, SDXL and SD3.5, Flux 2, Chroma, Krea 2, Z-Image, Wan, MiniMax-H3), lab-run models (Nano Banana, GPT Image 2, Grok) and Mage's own fine-tuned models such as Mango, Guava, Cherry and Kiwi are all reached from the same account.
One reference image becomes a character reusable across images and videos, and Motion Control applies the movement of an uploaded reference clip to that character; the plan table lists motion-control video on Max.
Gems work on every model, feature and app, on any account including Free, with no subscription. They pay for models outside your plan, higher resolution or duration, and Fast Mode, which puts a generation at the front of the queue.
The developers page documents a REST API, a remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Grok and Cursor, TypeScript and Python SDKs and ComfyUI nodes, all paid per generation in Gems with no subscription. The membership FAQ still describes the API as a premium limited beta at capacity.

Common questions about this tool, answered.
Only in a narrow sense. The free account costs $0 and receives a one-time bonus of 300 Gems, which the documentation says expire 90 days after being credited; after that, generating at all on Free means spending Gems, and unlimited generation is a membership feature. Seven independent accounts, on two YouTube videos and one Reddit thread between May 2025 and July 2026, describe the free account as far more limited than its 'free' label suggests. Three of them describe it as less generous than it used to be, one being the reviewer whose video tested Mage; two describe the 'unlimited' label as not translating into free generation; and one gives $10 as the lowest plan.
Mage's own documents answer differently. The Terms and Conditions say users forfeit all intellectual-property claims to generated content, which they describe as public domain and usable by anyone for any purpose, including the user; the same terms also say ownership of submitted content is retained 'depending on your User Package'. The documentation's usage-rights page says 'You own the content you create on Mage'. Both permit commercial use on every plan. If exclusive ownership matters, for client work for instance, get Mage's position in writing before relying on either.
