What is this tool?

Best for people who write in short bursts inside a browser all day — email, replies, forms, chat — and want the typing shortened where it happens rather than in another tab. The ceiling is set by reach: it is a Chrome extension and nothing else, and its own store listing says it fires on the sites its guide lists as natively supported, so whether it helps you depends less on the writing than on where you do it.

Compose AI lives in the text box you are already typing in. It watches the field, offers the rest of your sentence, and steps aside if you keep going. There is no editor to open and nothing to paste back, which is the whole of it. The trade is scope. A tool that lives in a text box can only help with what fits in a text box, and the vendor's "autocomplete anywhere" is qualified by its own store listing, which limits it to natively supported websites. Before adopting it, the question worth answering is not whether the completions are good but whether it fires where you write.

The Chrome Web Store gives the extension's last update as 2 January 2025; the privacy policy carries an effective date of 5 May 2021, which is a policy written before the current generation of writing assistants. What it does commit to is narrow and worth knowing: personal data is retained only while the account is open, and Stripe, Google Analytics, Mixpanel and Segment are named as the third parties involved. The vendor's own public position is tighter than the policy — typed text is used to produce autocompletions and is never sold — and the distance between those two statements is what a security review will want to close.

The free tier is the part you can judge on its own. It is not a trial — the vendor's FAQ calls the plugin free to use forever — and the store listing carries 300,000 users and a 4.1 rating across 243 ratings, so the free product is real and in wide use. Above it sits a premium version the vendor describes only as adding "some advanced features", personalisation among them. That is the whole published account of what upgrading buys, which makes the free tier the sensible place to decide whether the habit suits you at all.

Is this right for you?

Quick fit check against how you actually work.

Choose this if
  • Most of your writing happens in a browser text box — inbox, CRM, ticket queue, chat — rather than in a document you later export
  • You want completion offered in place and accepted with one key, instead of switching to a chat assistant and pasting the answer back
  • Email is the bulk of it: composing and replying are the two things this is shortcut-bound for
  • You want to try the writing-assistant idea at no cost and with no purchase decision, since the free tier is stated as permanent
Consider alternatives if
  • You do not use Chrome: the extension is the only surface the vendor offers, with no web app, desktop app, mobile app or API
  • Your writing is long-form — articles, reports, documentation — where a document-shaped tool with structure, outlines and revisions beats sentence completion
  • Your typing is confidential enough that you need the vendor's training and ownership position in writing: the privacy policy, effective May 2021, addresses neither
  • Your organisation requires a security certification such as SOC 2 or a documented data-processing agreement, none of which the published policy carries

Key features

What you can actually do with this tool.

Tab-to-complete inside the pages you already use

The extension predicts the rest of the sentence as you type and accepts it with Tab. That is the whole product in one gesture, and it is why the value depends less on output quality than on whether it fires in the boxes where your writing actually happens.

"//" to generate a passage from nothing

Typing two slashes turns the cursor into a prompt box, so a blank reply becomes a draft without leaving the field. Useful when the problem is starting rather than finishing.

A dedicated email shortcut and one-click replies

Option+G (Alt+G) composes an email, and a single click produces a professional reply to one you have received. Email is the use the vendor and the store listing both lead with.

Rephrasing a highlighted selection for tone or length

Select what you have already written and have it rewritten shorter, longer or in a different register — the editing half of the tool, and the part that works on text you did not generate.

Personalisation as the paid line

The vendor draws the free/paid boundary at learning your own writing style. That is the feature to judge the premium tier on, though neither its price nor its full contents is published.

Frequently asked

Common questions about this tool, answered.

What does the premium version add?

The vendor's own answer is thin: its FAQ says the plugin is free to use forever and that there is a premium version with "some advanced features including use of some of our personalization features". Personalisation — the extension learning your own writing style — is the only paid capability it names. Since that is the single published difference, it is the thing to test against your own writing before paying for it.

Does it work everywhere I type?

Not quite as advertised. The home page says autocomplete works anywhere, while the extension's own store description says it works on the websites its guide lists as natively supported. Since the whole value of the tool is that it fires in the fields you already use, check your main inbox, CRM or ticket tool against that guide before relying on it.

Is my typing used to train the model?

The published policy does not say. The privacy policy, effective 5 May 2021, is silent on model training and on who owns generated output. What the vendor does state is that your text is used only to produce autocompletions and that it will never sell your data, and its store declaration rules out passing data anywhere the extension's own job does not require. That is a commitment about use and sale, not about training, and the difference is worth raising with the vendor if you type anything confidential.
