Fast-read signals for fit, pricing, and trust.
If your staff and website visitors ask questions that your policies, product documents and web pages already answer, Cody can serve both without anything technical to build. Its help centre says it is weak at calculations, tables and images, so it suits text-heavy knowledge rather than spreadsheets, and each answer spends credits at a rate that depends on the model, so plan on testing before you commit.
Work in Cody starts with the knowledge base. You add documents in folders: uploaded PDFs, Word and PowerPoint files, pages you write in Cody, and website pages imported one at a time, or as a whole site on the higher plans. Cody's help centre lists PDF, Word and PowerPoint as upload formats and offers a separate beta utility that turns Excel or CSV data into text files you then upload. You then create a bot, give it a role and guardrails, tie it to the folders it may use, and share it: by link, inside Slack or Discord, through Zapier or the API, or as a widget on websites you approve.
Each plan includes a monthly credit amount, from 100 on the free plan to 25,000 on Advanced, and a question uses more or fewer credits depending on the model and the query; the plan cards list which models each plan can use. The pricing page gives neither the number of bots each plan allows nor any way to buy extra credits.
Cody's help centre is candid about limits: bots handle calculations and tables poorly, do not read images or diagrams in your documents, and can give thin answers when the passages they retrieve lack context. Under its terms you own what you put in, Cody assigns its rights in the answers to you, and it does not use your content to enhance its services; its sub-processor list names OpenAI and Anthropic as model providers and AWS for hosting, all in the USA, and a data processing addendum is available on request.

What you can actually do with this tool.
Cody says each answer is drawn from the knowledge folders you give the bot rather than from general knowledge, with the sources attached, so staff or customers can check an answer against the policy or manual behind it. It can reply in a different language from the question.
Pick a template or use advanced mode to set the bot's role, instructions, response style and limits, then choose which folders it may draw on.
Embed a bot inline or as a pop-up on approved domains and adjust its header, colours, opening messages, suggested questions and launcher. Conversations from the widget appear in Cody's chat tab. The pricing page lists widget customisation on every paid plan, and removing Cody's branding needs Premium or Advanced.
A lead-capture personality asks visitors for their name, email, phone or custom fields, with a choice of how insistently it asks, and forwards each lead by email or webhook, which Zapier can pass on to a CRM.
Premium and Advanced can import a whole website, up to 5,000 pages at a time according to the help centre, and keep 3 or 9 websites in sync automatically. On the free plan, pages are imported one URL at a time.

Common questions about this tool, answered.
Yes. Cody AI at meetcody.ai is a business knowledge assistant run by CODY AI, L.L.C., a CodeSM Group company in Texas. Sourcegraph Cody is a different product from a different company, made for software developers.
Cody Assist has a free plan and three paid plans listed at $29, $99 and $249 a month on the pricing page. The page shows only a monthly rate, with no option to switch to annual pricing and no wording about yearly billing, so confirm at checkout whether you are committing monthly or annually. Cody Convert, the sales agent, is in early access at $299 or $749 a month or a custom Enterprise price, and Cody Live avatars are quoted by sales.
Cody Free gives one member 100 credits a month, up to 100 documents, a single website widget and 7 days of conversation history, with no card required. Cody's terms bar opening several accounts to collect extra free credits, and a free account whose bots go unused for 60 days is scheduled for deletion.
It depends on the model. Credits per question vary with the model and the query. Cody's pricing page and its "What are Credits?" help article (September 2024) name different models, and only the help article gives per-model credit costs, so watch the usage tab during the first weeks to see how many questions your plan actually covers.
Under Cody's terms you own your input and Cody assigns its rights in the output to you, though answers may not be unique to you and may not be presented as written by a person. The terms also state that Cody does not use your content to enhance its services. Model providers named on its sub-processor list are OpenAI and Anthropic.
