What is this tool?

Captions suits short-form creators, marketers and small businesses who post talking-head or UGC-style video often. Which plan you can buy depends on your device, and credits, not captions, are the real budget; unused ones roll over until your balance reaches three months' worth.

Read full overview

A clip goes in, recorded or imported, and Captions transcribes and captions it automatically. From there you apply an AI Edit style or ask for changes in chat, add generated B-roll or music, and export. The editing features are the same idea on the phone and on the web; the generative ones draw on your credit balance.

The plan list depends on where you read it. The pricing page says its features and prices reflect iOS plans, and shows Max at $24.99 a month and Frontier at $69.99, $139.99 or $279.99 for one, two or four times the usage. The help centre also lists Basic at $9.99 a month with 200 credits, and Lite at $4.99 a month on Android. A Lite subscription works only on Android; using Captions on an iPhone or the web needs Basic, Max or Frontier. Where both pages give a price, they agree.

Is this right for you?

Quick fit check against how you actually work.

Choose this if
  • You film talking-head or UGC-style video on a phone and want captions and cuts done automatically
  • You caption in several languages
  • Your output varies month to month and credits that roll over suit you
  • You want to edit on both a phone and the web under one subscription
Consider alternatives if
  • You are on Android and expect the $4.99 Lite plan to cover an iPhone or the web as well
  • Your work leans heavily on generated video, which uses credits quickly
  • You want Max-only features while paying for Basic: those exports are watermarked

Key features

What you can actually do with this tool.

Captions in more than 100 languages

Automatic captions in over 100 languages are included on every plan.

Credits pay for the AI

Prompt-to-video costs 16 credits per 6 seconds and an AI Edit 10 to 40 credits. The monthly allowance per plan is on the plan cards; what it buys depends on how much of your editing is generative.

Credits roll over, up to a point

On Basic and above, unused credits carry into the next month until your balance holds three times the monthly allowance.

One watermark rule to know

Paid exports carry no watermark, with one exception: using a feature that requires Max while on Basic puts a watermark on that export.

Frequently asked

Common questions about this tool, answered.

What is in the free version?

The free plan includes 60 to 200 lifetime credits, which do not refresh, one caption template, and basic editing and exports.

How far do the credits go?

Prompt-to-video costs 16 credits for every 6 seconds, so Max's 500 monthly credits cover about three minutes of it and Basic's 200 a little over one. An AI Edit costs 10 to 40 credits. Those figures are the whole budget for generative features in a month, plus whatever has rolled over.
